Camp happens.

Well, it happened for real this time.  Camping.  Elle and Abe drove me and Pearl out to Kickapoo where we hung with Eve, Shin and Bailey.  Granted, it was for only one night because huge storms came through and Abe and Elle didn't want to press their luck, or so they said.

Big news is, Bailey and Pearl don't get along.  There's tension there.  Now, I'm not gonna say I'm at fault, but I find it difficult to believe I'm not a cause.  I mean, I've been secretly in love with Bailey and all.  I ♥ Bailey, right?  But I love Pearl too.  Conflicted.

Anyway, we hung out, slept in a tent (which Abe, Elle, Shin, and Elle seemed to say was outdoors, but it sure looked like we were sleeping inside a tent.  Humans.  Hysterical.), and went hiking on Saturday morning.  Now, if we only could have gotten more sleep.  Dang humans keeping everyone up all night with their chatter.  Oh well.

Worst part of the trip was coming home and the bath that followed.  Not sure what I feel about that.  Skeptical, comes to mind.  Is camping in our future again?  We'll see.  If only I could convince Abe and Elle to drop the bath thing.

So tired.

Why stay outdoors?

So, Abe and Elle have mentioned "camping."  It sounds too much like campaigning, which, as a dog, I can't vote unfortunately.  But then they pitched a tent in the backyard, and they said something about going to the forest.  I'm pretty sure, from all my Sunday morning television I watch, that campaigning in a forest is usually frowned upon.  Thus.  We have a tent in the back yard.

They even said "crate."  Apparently they thought I was dumb enough to think the tent was actually my crate so that I'd go in it of my own accord.  Boy, were they wrong.  What do they take me for anyway?
As you can see, I made inside eventually.  I heard Abe and Elle talking to Shin about about having Pearl and Bailey meet.  I hope they get along so that we can camp together.  I ♥ Pearl and Bailey.  I'm torn.

Me and Bailey (I ♥ Bailey) went with Abe and Shin to this place called Kickapoo State Park.  I don't read state park signs, but that's what Abe read as we exited the expressway.  We went hiking, and Abe put that stupid backpack on me again.  Said I was going to work despite having fun.  Made me carry water and everything.  Now, granted, I gave Bailey (♥) some H2O, which she kindly repaid the favor by sniffing me.  I'm so there, dude.
We walked a total of 2.5+ miles through forests and around lakes.  I tell you.  Good times!  And driving on the expressway, a first mind you, was a breeze.  And what more could I ask for in sitting next to my new girl on the ride home.
Pearl, eat your ♥ out!

Futbol, soccer, whatever you want to call it, is awesome!  Fetch is good, but soccer has so much more variety.  Fetch is out and back.  One could say it's intense.
 There's that jumping thing.
Soccer adds a whole other dimension.  Left to right.
Think I got World Cup in me?

Off to work.

Apparently, I have a "job."  I thought jobs were things Abe and Elle did, but apparently I've been hired out because Elle keeps talking about me "going to work."  She then throws this yellow backpacky sort of thing on me.
I mean, I guess.  Whatever.  I thought the advantage of being a dog was that you didn't have to do this kind of stuff.  In fact, the beauty of being adopted was that I got to sleep on a blanket all day and dream about my new heartthrob-friend, Bailey.  Know what I'm saying?

Anyway... Seems like there's lots of news to report.  Literally.  I've made it into the local media.  I read it while I brought in the newspaper this morning.  Of course, Elle was making breakfast for she and Abe, and Abe was making Pearl and my kibble.  Not sure how he does it, really.  He goes into the garage empty handed and shows up with three course meals.  Crazy.  Tangent.  Sorry.

So, the newspaper had a story about this weekend's Mutt Strut.  Here's the story.  And by the photo, looks like I'm leader of the pack.  Woot!  No one needs to know that I was really way back in the middle, taking my time.  Right?  You can see Bailey to my right.  Sexy older gal.  I ♥ Bailey.  Pearl, eat your ♥ out.

Can't wait until next year's event!  Now, if I could only figure out how to get out of this work crap.

Strut your stuff.

I'm a freaking celebrity, I tell you.  Everyone knew my name.  It was like I'd just popped out of a limo at a red carpet premiere, New York style.

Elle, Abe and I went to the Champaign County Humane Society's Mutt Strut today, and talk about a fun time.  It seems some people were mistaking me for some guy named Evan.  Though they looked really familiar to me, I couldn't place `em.  Unless that's some French way of saying hello, I don't know who they were talking about.

Anyway... we pawed around the park doing tasks like sit, down, and paw.  I'm deficient in the speak and roll over department.  Sorry.  I'm 3 for 5.  Sue me.  I'm still learning.

We did some weaving.  Elle called it agility training.  I called it dizzying.  Weaving in and out of poles.  Wow.  Vomit here, please.

I made a new friend in Bailey.  Apparently she's got parents too, which I thought weird because I thought only I had parents.  Anyway, Shin and Eve were nice too.  They hung out with us for most of the time.  It was weird cuz it seemed that Elle and Abe knew Shin and Eve.  I thought they only knew me and Pearl.  Random.

Here's me and Bailey when we first met.  I (heart) Bailey.
We also did some paw painting.  Pretty Picasso-like, don't you think?  I prefer calling it Dali-esque.  Whichever.
Lastly, I came in third place in the longest tail contest!  Yep, it's true.  I'm a real champ.
I want to thank all those who contributed to the Mutt Strut fundraiser.  Sadie, Bear, Milo and the very mysterious Anonymous, all helped make Mutt Strut a success.  You guys rock.  We're still just $25 shy of our goal.  Can you help out?

What's more?  This is just Saturday!  Woot!  A whole other day left in the weekend!

It's hard.

Look... Play is hard.  I mean, really tiring.  Abe and Elle took me to the dog park this weekend to play Frisbee, and even though I've played it here before, I still can't help but get excited about playing it.  Sure, it's like old hat now, but honestly, it's the most fun.
First, Abe or Elle throws the darn thing.
Then I bring it back.  Repeat.
